Arsenal playmaker Emile Smith Rowe has been impressed with what he has seen this summer from new midfield signing Fabio Vieira, who arrived from FC Porto earlier in the window.

In an interview with the Evening Standard, the Gunners attacker hailed the arrival of the Portuguese rookie after Vieira was signed by Mikel Arteta and Edu Gaspar this summer, with the midfielder arriving in north London with a big reputation from Porto.

Whilst Vieira is yet to play for Arsenal this pre-season, many fans are excited with what the left-footed maestro can do in the upcoming campaign, with Smith Rowe highlighting that the 22-year-old playmaker reminds him of Manchester City star Bernardo Silva.

Another product from Portugal, Silva has arguably been City’s best player over the past two seasons as Pep Guardiola’s side have cruised their way to back-to-back Premier League titles, with the midfield playmaker now linked with a reported £70m move to FC Barcelona.

Indeed, signing Vieira could be a coup of a signing for Arsenal if the midfielder develops well in north London and is given the chance to flourish, and from what Smith Rowe has seen so far, the 21-year-old England international has been impressed with what has been displayed on the training pitch.

Smith Rowe said: “He’s very similar [to Bernardo Silva]. He’s a very good passer of the ball, his left foot is very good and he likes to create goals and score them himself. I’ve already played against him at international level, so I can’t speak highly enough of him, and the fans should be really excited. At the U-21 Euross, they [Portugal] beat us 2-0 and he was unbelievable in that game.”

Smith Rowe is right to be excited by Vieira at Arsenal next season

Vieira was a signing from out of the blue from Arsenal this summer, and Smith Rowe is excited to be excited by the Portuguese youngster in north London next season, with the midfielder a player who can offer something very different to Arteta’s squad.

A midfielder with an eye for goal and a wand of a left-foot, Vieira has the potential to become Arsenal’s very own Silva, and the 22-year-old could be key in the Gunners’ aim for the next season of returning to the UEFA Champions League.
