Arsenal have now tied Gabriel Martinelli down to a new long-term contract, with Fabrizio Romano sharing what the Gunners will now focus on.
What’s the story?
Well, as first revealed by David Ornstein of The Athletic, the Brazil international has signed a new contract running until June 2027.
Romano added that Arsenal also negotiated an option to extend Martinelli’s contract by a further 12 months.
Now, Arsenal will attempt to tie Bukayo Saka and William Saliba down to new long-term contracts as well – according to the reliable Italian journalist.
Romano wrote: “Gabriel Martinelli has signed a new deal with Arsenal valid until June 2027 — it is done and sealed after long talks.
“Official statement will follow, Gabriel has accepted all clauses. First call, @David_Ornstein. Arsenal will now push for Saka and Saliba extensions.”
It would be huge for Arsenal if they can also secure the long-term futures of Saka and Saliba in addition to Martinelli.
All three are performing at an exceptionally high level, and with Mikel Arteta coaching them, we see no reason why the trio cannot become some of the best around in a few years.
In truth, having helped Arsenal rise to the Premier League table, they are arguably already among the best in Europe right now.
Martinelli decision is huge for Arsenal
The fact that a talented footballer such as Martinelli has agreed to spend the next four years at the Emirates Stadium is significant for Arsenal.
Saka and Saliba will acknowledge that, with the South American’s decision presumably inspiring them to also commit themselves to Arsenal.
It should also have a snowball effect in the transfer market, as Arsenal is clearly a good place to be if players like Martinelli are happy to spend the prime of their careers there.
Furthermore, the issue is no longer on the Arsenal No.11’s mind, which could now see him deliver some even better performances without the situation hanging over his head.
