Speaking on Tottenham Fan Chris Cowlin’s YouTube Channel, Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Tottenham have been scouting Marcel Sabitzer for two years.
The Austrian midfielder has been linked with a move to Tottenham quite often in recent times, but it seems as though Spurs have had their eyes on him for quite a while.
Indeed, Spurs were scouting him back when Mauricio Pochettino was manager if Romano is to be believed, and the journalist says that Spurs’ current boss is also a big fan of his.
“Yes, Sabitzer is a player that Tottenham appreciate, they have been scouting him for two years, so they like the player,” Romano said.
“I would say that it’s not easy to negotiate with Leipzig because they know they will be selling Upamecano in the summer, so they will make money with Upamecano and it won’t be easy to sign in the same summer also Sabitzer.
“But for sure, a lot of clubs are interested, Tottenham are among these clubs just because Jose likes these kind of players, he has quality, he’s also a fighter, he’s running, he’s not just a quality, but he’s really like ready for Premier League football.”
This is certainly interesting to hear.
Spurs clearly seem to think that Sabitzer would be a good fit in north London, but as of yet, they’ve not managed to work out a way to bring him in.
As Romano says, it won’t be easy to get him in the summer, especially with Dayot Upamecano seemingly on his way out of Leipzig, so this saga may drag on for some time yet.
After two years of scouting, you’d think that Spurs now know whether or not he’s the right player for them, and with Romano saying that they like him, one would imagine that this is a move they could look to make.
