Arsenal have reportedly held internal discussions on whether to sign Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo on loan.

Fabrizio Romano posted on Twitter that the Brazilian international is a name that ‘has been discussed’ by the Gunners’ this month. Arsenal are in need of a new midfielder following the departure of Ainsley Maitland-Niles to AS Roma on loan.

As well as Arthur, the Italian journalist claimed that three players are on Arsenal’s shortlist for a new midfielder this month. The likes of Bruno Guimaraes have been linked, but it is likely the Olympique Lyonnais star will be too expensive.

With options pricey, Arsenal will like sign a midfielder on loan, which could open the door for a potential move for Arthur.

Moreover, reports in Italy suggest that Juventus are eager to offload the former FC Barcelona star, who they signed for £66m as per the Guardian.

Indeed, the midfielder could be a solid option for the north London side, with former Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen a big fan of Arthur during their time together in Catalonia.

Signing a midfielder on loan could be something that gives Arsenal fans chills given the previous failures of Denis Suarez, Kim Kallstrom and Dani Ceballos, to an extent. Yet Arthur just could be a risk that pays off.

After all, the Gunners are desperate for midfield depth this month, and whilst Arthur has not impressed for Juventus in recent months, the Brazilian could be reborn under Arteta if the Arsenal coach can work his magic on the 25-year-old.
