Well, Nicolo Zaniolo to Arsenal isn’t quite as advanced as it was reported this past weekend.
According to Roma Giallorossa on Saturday, as covered by HITC Sport, the Gunners have made contact about bringing the 23-year-old to the Emirates Stadium.
Zaniolo has been linked to Arsenal quite a lot in recent weeks, but is there any substance?
According to Fabrizio Romano, nope.
The reliable Italian journalist has revealed that this ‘slightly surprising’ story is wide of the mark, claiming that Arsenal are not discussing with Roma the prospect of signing him.
He told Caught Offside: “I’m aware there’s been some speculation about Nicolo Zaniolo again, and it’s a slightly surprising story as there are no negotiations between Arsenal and Zaniolo as of now.”

Romano is right – it is surprising, in the sense that it probably won’t happen.
By trade, the Italy international is an attacking midfielder, but Mikel Arteta already has Martin Odegaard and Fabio Vieira to name but a few.
Simply put, there is no logical reason as to why Arsenal would be pursuing this, unless, of course, the Spanish manager had designs on playing him out wide.
There’s no denying the Gunners need a winger, but Zaniolo isn’t a primary winger and therefore, file this under ‘ probably won’t happen’.
