Fabrizio Romano has said that Arsenal have three midfielders on their list this January as the north London side aim to strengthen the position.
Taking to Twitter, the Italian football journalist posted that Mikel Arteta and Edu Gaspar have three names they are keeping track of this month.
With Ainsley Maitland-Niles joining AS Roma this week on loan, Arsenal’s midfield options currently sit at just three in Thomas Partey, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Granit Xhaka. However, the Ghanaian is likely to miss most of this month due to the Africa Cup of Nations.
Indeed, with the Gunners chasing UEFA Champions League football as well as competing in both the FA Cup and League Cup, depth in the midfield is critical. And this bombshell update from Romano seems to indicate that the club are being productive about the situation.
Both Bruno Guimaraes and Arthur Melo have been linked with the Gunners in recent days, with Romano posting that ‘Arsenal are working’ to sign the Olympique Lyonnais star. However, a deal could be too expensive for the north London side.
Arsenal midfield search could indicate another big January

With a midfielder and a centre forward being touted as potential arrivals for Arsenal this month, this January is shaping up to be yet another important one for Arteta’s side.
Last January saw the Gunners offload several players as well as lay down the groundwork to sign Martin Odegaard. And this month appears to be much of the same for the Premier League giants.
The futures of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Sead Kolasinac and Bernd Leno could be decided this month. And a new central midfield looks likely to be signed with Arsenal now looking short in the area.
