Fabrizio Romano has claimed on Twitter that AC Milan have made contact with Chelsea regarding Fikayo Tomori, amid reported interest from Leeds United and Newcastle United.

Romano, who works for The Guardian and SkySport, has claimed that Tomori is open to joining Milan.

However, according to the well-known and well-respected journalist, the England international central defender is the Italian club’s second-choice target, with their main aim being to sign Mohamed Simakan from Strasbourg.

TalkSPORT reported in December 2020, as covered by HITC Sport, that Leeds are interested in signing Tomori, while The Athletic reported earlier this month of interest in the 23-year-old from Newcastle, as covered by HITC Sport.

Blow for Leeds United and Newcastle United

Tomori is a very talented and promising young central defender who has experience of playing in the Premier League.

The 23-year-old would be a good signing for Leeds or Newcastle as cover for the second half of the season, but his reported willingness to join Milan is a blow for the Whites and the Magpies.

With Robin Koch injured and Diego Llorente having fitness issues, Leeds could do with cover in defence.

Although Newcastle are relatively well stocked in defence, Jamaal Lascelles has been suffering from long covid, and manager Steve Bruce could do with a new centre-back as cover.
