Liverpool were linked with a move for Memphis Depay in April.
According to Spanish publication Marca, Depay is on Liverpool’s radar this summer.
The former Manchester United winger will be one of the summer’s most coveted signings by virtue of the fact that he’s leaving Lyon on a Bosman.
And considering he has just scored 22 goals 40 games for the Ligue 1 club this past season, it’s easy to see why so many clubs are keen.
But one of those clubs is also Barcelona and reliable Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that a move to Camp Nou is the 27-year-old’s priority.
He told his Here We Go podcast: “Let’s see what happens with Memphis Depay. Depay is waiting to see what happens at Barcelona with the manager situation. He’s talking with Barcelona. His priority is to join Barcelona. The situation is still open.”
Good signing for Liverpool?
Absolutely. We all know Liverpool’s problems this past season have been related to their defensive crisis.
But let’s not forget that Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino both had pretty poor seasons, it has to be said.
Liverpool will be determined to reclaim their Premier League title next term but Jurgen Klopp will need additional attacking players to do that.
And considering Depay is available for absolutely free, he could’ve been quite a coup by Michael Edwards and Klopp.
And he still can be of course, but Romano is generally on the ball when it comes to transfers and his priority being Barcelona doesn’t bode well for Liverpool really.
