Celtic are interested in signing Rennes defender Brandon Soppy and have opened talks to sign him, according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano.
The Bhoys need all manner of defensive additions this summer.
Right back, left back centre back – new Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou needs it all in this transfer window.
A host of names have been linked to fill those roles, and Rennes talent Brandon Soppy is the latest to be touted for a move to Parkhead.
Romano claims that Celtic want to sign Soppy and talks have been opened.
However, Celtic also face a battle with teams in France who want to sign Soppy, who Romano brands a ‘huge talent’.
Soppy, 19, has come up through the Rennes ranks but has only ever made 11 first-team appearances for the Ligue 1 side.
Few could blame Soppy for fancying a move elsewhere for first-team action, and Celtic may be able to offer that under Postecoglou.
Soppy doesn’t necessarily look like a Postecoglou target though, and that’s because Celtic were also keen on signing Soppy last summer according to Foot Mercato.
The French teenager plays mostly as a right back or centre back, but Romano noted that he could even be a left back for Celtic, with his versatility no doubt appealing to the Bhoys.
