According to Foot Mercato, Celtic are in the race to sign Stade Rennais defender Brandon Soppy – but face competition from AS Monaco and RB Leipzig.
Celtic have enjoyed success with Frenchmen in recent times, with Christopher Jullien, Olivier Ntcham, Moussa Dembele and Odsonne Edouard all thriving at Parkhead.
After claims that Celtic want Lyon striker Amine Gouiri, it’s now another young Frenchman being linked. Defender Soppy is believed to be a target despite not having a senior appearance to his name.
The 18-year-old has come up through the Rennes ranks, and has been featuring in the UEFA Youth League this season – which has seemingly caught Celtic’s eye.
One of the top young talents in France, Soppy can also play for the Ivory Coast. The teenager is predominantly a right back, but can also play in the centre.
However, the report notes that Monaco and Leipzig also want Soppy, and will battle Celtic for his signature whenever the transfer window is able to open.

Soppy has now admitted that whilst Leipzig is a ‘very good’ club, it may no be the right move given that they already have Nordi Mukiele and Lukas Klostermann at right back.
That may just give Celtic hope of landing Soppy this summer, with the potential to have him compete with Jeremie Frimpong for years to come.
“Leipzig is a very good club, but I need some playing time,” Would going there be the right solution? I think it might not be the right choice. There is Mukiele, Klostermann… but the Bundesliga is a championship that attracts me,” he added.
