Napoli midfielder Fabian Ruiz is wanted by Arsenal, Liverpool and Newcastle United – but it’s now Everton being linked with the Spanish star.

That’s according to Gonfia La Rete in Italy, who claim that Napoli will meet with the agents of Ruiz very soon to try and thrash out a new contract.

It’s stated that Napoli’s task of keeping Ruiz could be ‘difficult’ if Newcastle or Everton come through and offer big contracts.

This is a confusing one as it sadly seems very unlikely that Ruiz will be joining Everton any time soon.

Everton have battled relegation this season and that isn’t exactly appealing to a Serie A star and Spain international.

Additionally, Everton’s finances aren’t in the greatest place right now so offering up a big deal to Ruiz – as well as a considerable fee to Napoli – just doesn’t seem likely.

Frank Lampard may well want a star midfielder this summer but we can’t see a way that Ruiz ends up joining Everton.

It’s far more likely that Ruiz ends up joining a Premier League rival with Newcastle’s interest mentioned yet again.

The Mirror reported in February that Arsenal representatives have already held talks with Ruiz’s agency in the hope of a £16million deal.

Mikel Arteta allegedly sees Ruiz as being the ideal player for Arsenal’s midfield, whilst Everton’s bitter rivals Liverpool are also keen on Ruiz.

With those three clubs interested, how on earth can Everton expect to bring Ruiz to Goodison Park?

It may be a while until Everton can really compete with the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and even Newcastle for signings again.

It’s a sad state of affairs, but one brought on by years of terrible decision-making from Farhad Moshiri.

Everton face a long road back to the top eight of the Premier League, and it’s a journey we can’t imagine Ruiz will want to sign up for this summer.
