Thomas Tuchel has pretty much the whole of England against him after the 2-1 loss to Argentina.

In the 2026 World Cup semi-final, England threw away their lead against Argentina by defending deep from the 60th minute. Manager Thomas Tuchel subbed off attackers for centre-backs, deploying six defenders on the pitch at one point, which backfired completely.

The worst thing is that from Anthony Gordon’s goal (55th minute) to Lautaro Martinez’s winning goal (92nd minute), England had just 12% possession.

With all the criticism directed Tuchel’s way, there has been some speculation over his future.

Lionel Messi & Lamine Yamal are the stars of their nations but aside from them, who could be a matchwinner in the World Cup final and why?

FA make their feelings clear on Thomas Tuchel as England boss

FA chief executive Mark Bullingham is understood to remain fully behind Thomas Tuchel.

Here is what he said after England‘s exit from the 2026 World Cup.

“It is heartbreaking to be so close. The players and Thomas gave it everything today and the squad, coaches and staff could not have worked harder during the tournament.

“I would like to thank them all – and also give my heartfelt thanks to our wonderful fans here in the USA and at home.

“We felt your support every step of the way and we are all so disappointed not to go further.”
