According to The Independent, Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing Filip Kostic from Eintracht Frankfurt, and his stock has just been raised slightly.
Indeed, the Serbian has just been named as the Europa League Player of the Season after Frankfurt’s incredible triumph over Rangers in Seville.
Kostic has enjoyed a truly remarkable campaign in Europe. He’s just picked up his winners’ medal, and now he’s been named as the very best player in the competition.
Kostic has been fantastic in UEFA’s secondary tournament, he has three goals and four assists to his name, and the majority of his performances have been as a wing-back.
A wing-back who has been shining in Europe who is fantastic going forward? To us, Kostic sounds like the perfect player for Antonio Conte, and after winning this award, Spurs’ interest may only amp up.
Kostic’s brightest hour this season was undoubtedly against Barcelona at Camp Nou. The wing-back scored twice and assisted once as Frankfurt upset the odds and eliminated Barca in the quarter-finals.
His assist in the final would also prove crucial a Frankfurt triumphed on penalties against Rangers.
If that Europa League final is to be Kostic’s final game for Frankfurt then he will be leaving behind a fantastic legacy, and if his next move is to be to the Premier League then the English game will be gaining a fantastically talented footballer.
Kostic is well worthy of his Player of the Season award and we can only hope that the ‘extraordinary’ left-footer ends up in the Premier League this summer.
