Liverpool totally revamped their midfield in the summer with the departures of some big stars and also the arrival of new faces.

One name that was doing the rounds during the summer transfer window, and is still being talked about in January, is Fluminense star, Andre Trindade.

Sources recently told HITC Football that Marco Silva’s Fulham, who were knocked out of the League Cup by Liverpool recently, rekindled their interest in the 22-year-old.

Andre Trindade is a midfielder who Tim Vickery compared to ‘a young Javier Mascherano’ and also thinks is better than Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz.

After interest from Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool in the summer, the South American football expert is ‘absolutely baffled’ that it has stopped there, as he told Sky Sports News

In terms of profile, he fits the bill. A strong midfielder with presence, someone who can take the ball under pressure and build from the back.

Perhaps Andre Trindade is someone Liverpool will look towards again this summer, that’s if he doesn’t get a move before then because Tim Vickery thinks he is worthy of it and has only ‘grown’ since.

Premier League interest in Andre Trindade

“I am absolutely baffled and financial fair play is part of this,” said Vickery. “Even Fulham, who have been closest recently, they think signing this player isn’t a priority.

“Liverpool were the club closest to signing him in the summer. We understand that a big-money offer came in. Since then, he has only grown Andre. He has won the Copa Libertadores. He has played well in a bad Brazil side. Did well in a losing cause against Manchester City in the recent final of the Club World Cup.

“He’s a central midfield player that brings you so much. He does remind me of a young Javier Mascherano.  So, it is baffling to me, especially given the success of a number of Brazilian central midfielders in English football recently. Think of Joao Gomes at Wolves or Douglas Luiz at Aston Villa.

“This is probably the best of the bunch. It is surprising to me that there hasn’t been more interest in this window”

Liverpool’s midfield progressing well

Given that this year was a season of transition for Liverpool’s midfield, you could argue that they are more than punching above their weight.

Heading into February, this is where the men are separated from the boys and Liverpool are still in every competition.

One big factor behind that is how their midfield, from Alexis Mac Alisster to Endo, have performed, and the best could yet come.
