Roy Keane thinks Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz has the qualities to play for Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.
The former Manchester United captain spoke highly of the 25-year-old and how he is someone who ‘turns up every week’.
Arsenal are one place below third-placed Aston Villa in the Premier League table, but that hasn’t stopped them from trying to lure Douglas Luiz towards their direction.
It didn’t work previously because the former Manchester City man ended up signing a new contract, but Arsenal are still trying to knock.
Roy Keane spoke about the Gunners’ previous interest in Douglas Luiz and how he is a ‘quality’ midfield player, as he told Sky Sports Premier League (14/01/24 at 1:45 pm).
During the previous campaign, the Brazil international was Villa’s Players’ Player of the Season and the Supporters’ Player of the Season.
That shows his value to the team and how important he is for this Champions League-chasing side.
Douglas Luiz and Arsenal transfer links
“He turns up every week this player,” said Keane. “Never seems to be injured. Quality player. I like him.
“I think he was linked with Arsenal last year. There are no surprises there, with some of the Villa players, you think they can certainly go on to play for a Man United, Arsenal or even Man City, you look at Watkins.
“But I like Luiz. He is consistent. Turns up week in and week out. You know what you are going to get from him. I like a lot about him. Probably lacks that real pace maybe.
“In terms of his decision-making and looking after the ball. Very, very good.”

Aston Villa keeping hold of Douglas Luiz
As Villa proved with their previous star man – Jack Grealish – good luck trying to prize away their key players because it’s not going to be easy or cheap.
Arsenal have already found that out and you would imagine they will get the same feedback if they come knocking again.
Under the stewardship of Unai Emery, they are trying to push into the Champions League and it’s not going to happen by selling your best stars.
So like Grealish to Manchester City previously, unless teams put down £100 million plus for Luiz, then he isn’t going anywhere fast.
