According to The Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn.

Spurs are keen to bolster their midfield this summer, and it looks as though they want to add some Premier League experience in the middle of the park as they’re reportedly targeting McGinn and James Ward-Prowse.

McGinn has been proving himself in the Premier League for some time now, but one man who thinks that he can step up another gear is Jose Mourinho.

Indeed, writing in his column for The Sun last year, Mourinho says that he expects more from McGinn, stating that he’s a good Premier League player.

What’s been said?

Mourinho discussed McGinn ahead of Euro 2020.

“I would expect more from John McGinn and Stuart Armstrong, they are good Premier League players,” Mourinho wrote.

“Scotland, though, are a team with a good mentality but without real talent, especially in attack.”

Conte could unlock him

Mourinho is right about McGinn, he’s always been a talented player who has felt like he has more to offer.

McGinn is blessed with incredible talent, a fantastic left-foot and a brilliant ability to stay on the ball and ride a challenge, and if he can fine-tune some of the other aspects of his game, he could be a star.

Luckily, at Tottenham, he’d have the chance to work with one of the greatest coaches on the planet – Antonio Conte, and if the Italian can get a hold of McGinn, he could transform him into one of the best in the Premier League.

Mourinho once challenged McGinn to show what he’s made of, and now, he may make this step up at the Roma boss’ former club.
