Ross Barkley was linked with Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United and Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic before he left Chelsea for Nice in the summer transfer window.
Ross Barkley linked with Celtic and Newcastle United
Barkley had his contract at Chelsea mutually terminated, and the former Everton attacking midfielder then joined French club Nice as a free agent.
Newcastle and Celtic were among the clubs linked with the 28-year-old before he made the decision to move to France and play for Ligue 1 outfit Nice.
In August 2022, well-known and well-respected journalist Simon Phillips told GiveMeSport that Celtic were among the clubs keen on the 28-year-old English playmaker.
Aston Villa, Newcastle United, Brighton and Hove Albion and West Ham United were also reported to be interested in Barkley.

Delighted with Nice move
The former Chelsea player has now taken to Instagram to express his delight at making the move to Nice.
Barkley has been training with his new club and is looking forward to making his debut for Lucien Favre’s side soon.
Nice are 16th in the Ligue 1 table at the moment with five points from six matches, just a point above the relegation zone.
Favre’s team will take on Ajaccio away from home in the league on Sunday.
