Gary Lineker has taken to Twitter after Arsenal target Memphis Depay scored to put the Netherlands 1-0 up against the USA.
The Dutchman – who SPORT in Spain believe is wanted by Mikel Arteta – scored in the tenth minute of Louis van Gaal’s Round of 16 clash with Gregg Berhalter at the World Cup, dazzling Lineker in doing so.
What’s the story?
Well, the BBC Match of the Day host described Depay’s goal as an “exceptional” strike after watching the 28-year-old smash the ball past Matt Turner, who could soon become his teammate at the Emirates Stadium.
While Lineker – a prolific striker in his day – surely appreciated the Dutchman’s confident finish, he was mainly remarking about the buildup play from Van Gaal’s side.
The Netherlands completed 20 passes in total to open the scoring against the USA, which – according to the BBC – is the most on record for a Dutch goal at the World Cup.

It was truly a marvellous goal from the Netherlands, and they doubled their lead before half-time as Daley Blind powered another low shot beyond Arsenal’s Turner, who was visibly angered by his defence’s lack of effort.
A goal from Denzel Dumfries then put the Netherlands 3-1 up, after a bizarre goal from Haji Wright got the USA back in the game.
Memphis Depay would shine for Arsenal
In our view, we would be against Arsenal signing Depay if it was going to cost millions of pounds.
However, as a result of the Dutchman’s £159,000-a-week wages and Barcelona’s financial issues, Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo believe he will leave for free once the World Cup is over.
Therefore, Arteta and Edu could have a fantastic opportunity to bolster their attack with a superb forward, and all without having to pay a transfer fee.
Now, the only issue is how many competitors for his signature could arrive, if he continues to impress at the World Cup.
