Tottenham Hotspur attacker Steven Bergwijn scored another Netherlands goal last night.

The Dutch hammered Belgium 4-1 and the linked-away Spurs winger opened the scoring.

In doing so, Bergwijn now has five goals in his last four appearances for Louis van Gaal’s side.

In contrast, this is a player who can’t buy a starting berth for Tottenham, with Antonio Conte failing to include him in a first XI since way back in January.

The former PSV Eindhoven is one of the players Conte is reportedly wanting to sell this summer, with ESPN claiming on Friday that the Lilywhites would take £21 million for the player.

On his day, though, Bergwijn is an asset. Just ask Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk.

Van Dijk and Bergwijn are international colleagues, and the big defender has paid tribute to his compatriot for his performance last night, claiming the Belgians couldn’t handle him.

He told De Telegraaf: “A good win with good football. Everyone was good today. Steven Bergwijn in particular was excellent, they couldn’t get a grip on him.”

Despite his form and Netherlands goals, Bergwijn is better off leaving Tottenham.

Conte has clearly made his mind up about the player and it appears he’ll never be a regular under the no-nonsense Italian manager in North London.

It’s a shame because the player has game-changing qualities, evident by two stoppage-time goals against Leicester City in a 3-2 win for Spurs last season.

But consistency has been his biggest problem throughout his two-and-a-half year spell in the Premier League and evidently Conte cannot change that.
