Clement Lenglet has been left out of Barcelona training amid claims he will now finalise a permanent move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Barcelona have excused Clement Lenglet from first-team training until next week amid links to Tottenham Hotspur.

Barca have confirmed on their official website that Lenglet was not part of their return to pre-season training on Monday.

It’s stated that Lenglet will not be required to show up for training until July 18th – a week from today.

Lenglet did arrive for medical tests on Monday but that was all as Xavi keeps his out of first-team training plans.

The only logical explanation here is that Lenglet is being given time away to complete a transfer – and that brings Tottenham into play.

Spurs allegedly closing in on Clement Lenglet

Shortly after Barcelona’s announcement on Lenglet last night, Mundo Deportivo ran an update on the defender’s situation.

They claim that Lenglet is now going to close a deal with Tottenham in the coming days.

It’s suggested that Lenglet will travel to Barcelona’s USA tour next week if no deal with Spurs is found.

The Catalan press clearly believe that Lenglet is being left behind to try and thrash out a permanent move to Tottenham.

Lenglet spent last season on loan at Tottenham but the deal didn’t include a permanent option.

That means the clubs must negotiate now rather than having a set price for Tottenham to activate.

Lenglet has been hailed as ‘excellent’ by Cristian Romero but we can’t get excited about a permanent move to Spurs.

Tottenham should avoid Lenglet deal

Lenglet may well be cheap but that doesn’t automatically mean that this would be a good deal.

The Frenchman was bang average last season and a permanent move wouldn’t excite anybody.

Lenglet has shown that he doesn’t raise the level of the Tottenham starting XI, unlike target such as Edmond Tapsoba could.

There isn’t huge potential or resale value in Lenglet at 28, unlike another left-footed Spurs target in Micky van de Ven.

Lenglet doesn’t aid Tottenham’s homegrown numbers either, unlike Tosin Adarabioyo, who has been linked with a move from Fulham.

Not ticking any of those boxes is a problem for us and we would implore Tottenham to look elsewhere for a centre back having already seen what Lenglet can do, and it wasn’t all that impressive the first time around.
