Cristian Romero thinks Fabio Paratici has made an ‘excellent’ signing for Tottenham Hotspur

Cristian Romero has hailed Clement Lenglet, claiming the Tottenham Hotspur summer signing is an ‘excellent’ player.

Tottenham were in the market for a left-sided centre back this summer with Antonio Conte seeking competition for Ben Davies.

Names such as Josko Gvardiol, Alessandro Bastoni, Nico Schlotterbeck and Pau Torres were all mentioned.

All of those would have cost big money, or in Schlotterbeck’s case, had already agreed to join Borussia Dortmund.

Tottenham ended up taking a much, much cheaper route by signing Lenglet on loan.

Lenglet, 27, was a big signing for Barcelona back in 2018 having impressed with their La Liga rivals Sevilla.

Lenglet initially impressed for Barca but appeared to completely lose his confidence and his performances suffered as a result.

With Barcelona bringing in defenders Andreas Christensen and Jules Kounde this summer, Lenglet was made available.

Tottenham managed to secure a loan deal that looks very impressive; Barcelona are allegedly paying more than half of Lenglet’s wages during his time in North London.

The Frenchman spent the opening weeks of the season on the bench but then came in against Fulham and Marseille.

Lenglet impressed in those games, showing the ability to progress the ball out from the back down Tottenham’s left side.

Davies now has real competition in that area and Lenglet will be desperate to impress – especially with a permanent move surely a possibility next summer.

Lenglet has now earned praise from another Tottenham defender with Cristian Romero seemingly impressed.

Romero has been quoted by Football London as saying that he thinks Lenglet is an ‘excellent’ player and believes Tottenham need this quality of player in the squad.

Fabio Paratici has bought in quality signings to Tottenham – such as Romero – and it looks like his deal for Lenglet has Romero’s seal of approval.

“We’ve built a good working relationship within the group since his arrival and we’re helping him to integrate as fast as possible,” said Romero. “As a player, he’s excellent and he’s going to add a lot to the group, which is going to be paramount for the year ahead, seeing as we’re involved in many competitions where we want to be at our highest level. These types of players make the squad better, so it’s very important to have them in our ranks,” he added.
