Leeds United talent Cody Drameh now accepts that he will not be leaving Elland Road this deadline day, after the Elland Road hierarchy recently rejected an approach by Cardiff City.

Cody Drameh accepts Leeds United exit is off after failed Cardiff City talks

According to Leeds Live, Cody Drameh has accepted his immediate future will remain with Leeds United after Jesse Marsch denied the young defender a late transfer away from the club. Now, he will stay and strive to gain a place in the American’s plans in West Yorkshire.

Drameh has only held a reserve role at Elland Road so far this season, having only featured as an unused substitute during each of their opening five Premier League matches. Marsch gave the 20-year-old a chance to impress in the EFL cup after starting at home to Barnsley.

The London-born dynamo played the full 90 minutes as the Whites ran out 3-1 winners at home to the Tykes. But Drameh remains firmly behind Leeds’ £10m summer signing from RB Salzburg, Rasmus Kristensen, for Marsch’s Premier League pecking order at right-back.

A difficult path to regular minutes saw Marsch warm to allowing Drameh to leave Leeds in the final days of the summer transfer window. The Whites boss admitted last week that he had ‘some tough conversations’ with the youngster and would see how the sales unfolded.

“The key for him is to come out of his comfort zone,” Marsch explained. “What happens with him? It is not totally solidified one way or the other, he wants to play games but we value having him. We will see how the next week goes, the window is still open.”

Leeds United were only open to permanent departure for 2020 arrival

Leeds’ reluctance to let Drameh leave on deadline day likely comes from the Whites only wanting to sell, and not loan, the defender. Wales Online reported at the start of August that Cardiff City had approached the Elland Road hierarchy to discuss another loan move.

Drameh spent the second half of last season in south Wales, and mightily impressed with his Championship performances. But the Bluebirds were unable to meet Leeds’ valuation for a permanent return of the talent who left Fulham for West Yorkshire for £1m in 2020.

The Whites allowed Drameh to secure a temporary transfer in the mid-season market as he had only featured in three Premier League games for 126 minutes under Marcelo Bielsa. It proved a beneficial decision, with the England U21 gem playing 22 Championship fixtures.

Drameh also laid on three assists under Steve Morison at the Cardiff City Stadium through his 1,924 minutes of league action. While the Bluebirds boss praised his ‘excellent’ efforts, via Leeds Live, and likened his energy to a ‘Duracell bunny’ as he ‘keeps going and going’.
