Jesse Marsch has told Thursday’s press conference that Cody Drameh could still leave Leeds United – as per the club’s YouTube – after having “tough conversations” with the right-back at the end of last season.

Drameh, 20, spent the second half of last season out on loan at Championship side Cardiff. He starred for the Bluebirds, playing 22 times and laying on three assists with his marauding runs from right-back. He is back at Leeds.

The Whites have signed Denmark international Rasmus Kristensen from Salzburg. Luke Ayling is set to return to training after an operation next week. Drameh will become the club’s third-choice right-back, when Ayling is back.

But Drameh, who has been an unused sub in all three Premier League games, impressed in his 90 minutes against Barnsley on Wednesday night. Marsch says that £1m Drameh could still leave, with the club 50/50 over his future.

“Cody and I had some tough conversations at the end of last season. He had a great experience at Cardiff. I watched a lot of his games, highlights of his games. Over time, he has enjoyed being here. He has played good football.

“The key for him is to come out of his comfort zone. What happens with him? It is not totally solidified one way or the other, he wants to play games but we value having him. We will see how the next week goes, the window is still open.”

It is unfortunate for Drameh. For most Premier League clubs, he would be the ideal second-choice right-back behind a more-experienced option. But at Leeds, the signing of Kristensen and the presence of Ayling makes him third choice.

In a way, he is lucky that he got a run out against Barnsley with Ayling still coming back to fitness after his operation. But by the time Leeds take on Wolves in the next round of the Carabao Cup, Ayling will be back fit and ready to play.
