BBC pundit Alan Shearer offered high words of praise for Magpies winger Christian Atsu, when speaking on BBC’s Match of the Day programme, broadcast on Saturday December 23rd, labelling his performance against the Hammers as ‘excellent’.

Newcastle earned a valuable three points against West Ham yesterday – a win that lifted them up to 15th in the Premier League table, and the 25-year-old Ghanaian was sensational from the first whistle until the very last, chalking up a goal and an assist for his side.

Atsu joined the Magpies permanently in the summer of this year, having spent the previous campaign on loan at St James’ Park, but his progress has been interrupted by injury this season.

He now seems to be fully back up to speed, however, and if he can maintain the kind of form that he showed against David Moyes’ side yesterday, he could be a real asset for the Toon this term.

Shearer labelled the winger’s display as ‘excellent’, when speaking on BBC’s Match of the Day programme last night:

“Atsu gets the goal that he deserved because he was excellent today.”

Next up on the agenda for Rafa Benitez’s side is the daunting prospect of a home game against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City on December 27th, and Atsu will have to be at his very best, if his side have any chance whatsoever of beating the league leaders.
