The USMNT were off to a blazing start at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. As a result, many genuinely believed the hosts had a shot at winning the tournament.
However, the last few days haven’t been kind to the USMNT. To be fair, FIFA overturning Folarin Balogun’s one-game suspension against Belgium has turned many fans into USMNT haters.
This obviously includes a plethora of Team USA fans, who are currently supporting Belgium over their own country.
Robert Griffin III hammers US ‘traitors’ at 2026 FIFA World Cup
Right now, the USMNT are down 3-1 against Belgium, as the hosts look all set to exit the competition. Despite that, many US fans are showing support to Belgium over their own country.
This hasn’t sat well with former NFL star Robert Griffin III, who labeled such fans as traitors in a vicious X rant.
“If you are a US Citizen and you aren’t rooting for USA against Belgium, you are a traitor. No other way to put it. You can’t be trusted if you are rooting against your own country in the World Cup,” RGIII wrote.
Once again, if the US President, Donald Trump, hadn’t intervened with Balogun’s suspension, the USMNT would have thousands more supporters in their corner.
Alas, the US President couldn’t keep politics out of the biggest soccer tournament in the world, and the USMNT are paying the price for it.
