The USMNT have kicked off their Round of 16 affair against Belgium at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The hosts reached here after registering a 2-0 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Round of 32. However, the match went viral for Folarin Balogun’s red card.
As it would have meant Balogun’s absence in the Round of 16. But in a surprising turn of events, FIFA overturned Balogun’s one-game suspension following US President Donald Trump’s intervention.

Donald Trump is ready with ‘rigged’ excuse in case the USMNT get eliminated
The decision has caused a major uproar, as this was an unprecedented decision. But does it guarantee the USMNT a sure-shot win over Belgium? Of course not.
Keeping that in mind, Trump already revealed how he plans to call the 2026 World Cup ‘rigged’ if the USMNT gets knocked out in the Round of 16.
“If they beat us, they can be really proud. The other way, if they beat us, we’ll say, I say it was rigged, just like the election was rigged in 2020, but I won’t get into that,” Trump said, per Aaron Ruper on X.
Trump was referencing the 2020 US elections, where Joe Biden defeated him and became president. This is an utterly surprising comment.
But as fans say, ‘Ball don’t lie,’ and at the time of writing, Belgium is already up 1-0 over Team USA following a ninth-minute goal from Charles De Ketelaere.
