Celtic legend Henrik Larsson could be heading to Southend United.
According to the Daily Mail, Southend United have targeted Henrik Larsson to become their new manager after Kevin Bond’s departure.
Earlier this month, Bond resigned from his post after a dismal start to the season, in which his side lost their first six games of the season.
Gary Waddock has taken temporary charge of the team, picking up one point from two games in charge, but Southend may well look elsewhere for a permanent manager.
It’s claimed that the Shrimpers now want a big-name appointment in Henrik Larsson, who quit his post as Helsingborg manager just last month, having only been appointed in June.
The 47-year-old resigned citing abuse from fans as the reason for his exit from his hometown club, and he’ll be looking to get back into management elsewhere.
His record as a manager with the likes of Landskrona, Falkenberg and his first spell with Helsingborg isn’t exactly stellar, but Southend may feel that a big-name arrival can give them a boost.
Celtic fans wanted Larsson back at the club as a part of Neil Lennon’s staff at Parkhead, but that seemingly won’t be happening, though he would be joining a former Bhoys misfit at Southend.
Ex-Celtic defender Andre Blackman – who joined the Bhoys eight years ago and made just three appearances for the club – is currently at Southend, and Larsson may well end up managing the former Celtic youngster at Roots Hall.
