Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal wanted to sign Amadou Onana from Everton in the January transfer window, but the Gunners could not convince the defensive midfielder to move to the Emirates Stadium.
Maybe, just maybe, Arsenal will be lucky in the summer transfer window.
Everton will sell Arsenal target Amadou Onana
The Sun have reported that if Everton get relegated from the Premier League, then they will sell Onana.
The Toffees will have to offload a number of players if they are unable to retain their Premier League status for next season.
And Onana is among them.
January transfer links
This will come as music to the ears of Arsenal.
The Gunners wanted to sign the 21-year-old defensive midfielder in the January transfer window, and the North London club remain interested in the youngster.
According to CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs in CaughtOffSide, in January 2023, Arsenal wanted to sign Onana as a potential alternative to Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo.

Jacobs added that the youngster, described as “infectious” by former Tottenham Hotspur forward Garth Crooks on BBC Sport in February 2023, made it clear to the Gunners that he was not interested in leaving the Toffees in the middle of the season.
Arsenal in constant contact
In April, Het Nieuwsblad reported that Arsenal are in ‘constant contact’ with Onana’s representatives.
Now, of course, Everton are a big club, but if the Merseyside club do get relegated, then it is hard to see Onana stay at Goodison Park.
Arsenal could win the Premier League title this season, and a move to the Emirates Stadium in the summer transfer window could be appealing to the Belgium international.
