Everton are one of a number of clubs showing interest in Tottenham outcast Tanguy Ndombele this summer – a player that Dele Alli once branded him a “great player” and an “honour” to play alongside while at Spurs.

Dele has since moved out of Tottenham and Ndombele is likely to follow suit. Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge says that he, along with Harry Winks, Gio Lo Celso and Sergio Reguilon are being forced to train by themselves.

French outlet Foot Mercato claim that as many as nine clubs want Ndombele. Real Betis, Villarreal, Bayer Leverkusen, Everton, Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest, Marseille, Napoli and Galatasaray are all looking at Ndombele.

Everton are one of the clubs looking at Ndombele then. Dele only played for a couple of seasons alongside Ndombele, before joining Everton, but enought time to rave about the Tottenham record signing.

“Last season we had great midfielders as well. He’s come in, he looks comfortable and he’s a great player,” Dele told the Standard, in 2019. “It’s an honour to have him at Tottenham.”

Everton showing interest in Ndombele: Dele branded him a ‘great player’

There are question marks for Frank Lampard and Everton in pursuing a deal for Ndombele. Firstly, his wages. Ndombele is on an enormous £200k-a-week deal, given his club-record move to North London in 2019.

Secondly, is do Everton really need an attacking midfielder? They have Dele, they have Anthony Gordon, they have other options too. Bringing in Ndombele might stunt the growth of Gordon in months and years to come.

But if Lampard reverts Ndombele to the position he took up while at Lyon before his move to Tottenham, it might work. He was more of an eight, or a box-to-box six. Everton do need players there, so it might work.
