Everton have interviewed Portuguese boss Vitor Pereira as they chase a new manager – and he is understood to have impressed during talks.

That’s according to The Daily Mail, who claim that Pereira is now a ‘serious contender’ to take the Everton job.

Farhad Moshiri allegedly wants a ‘forward-thinking’ manager after the dire product on show under Rafael Benitez.

This report claims that Pereira has been interviewed by Everton and impressed during talks with the Toffees.

Senior officials at Everton now believe that Pereira is a strong contender for the job with Everton seemingly wanting to take a risk.

It’s stated that Everton were made to regret not going for previous left-field appointments in Mauricio Pochettino, Ralph Hasenhuttl and Graham Potter.

Everton are now considering something new, with Pereira a frontrunner if they go down that path.

So just who is potential Everton boss Pereira?

The 53-year-old held managerial positions with Sanjoanense, Espinho and Santa Clara before working as the assistant to Andre Villas-Boas at Porto.

Pereira took over from Villas-Boas in 2011, winning two league titles with Porto whilst boasting a win rate of almost 70%.

Since leaving Porto in 2013, Pereira has been somewhat nomadic. He’s head off to Al Ahli, Olympiacos, Fenerbahce, 1860 Munich, Shanghai SIPG and Fenerbahce again.

Pereira won a league title in Greece and another in China, taking his league title haul to four across his managerial career.

Sacked by Fenerbahce last month, Pereira is looking to get back into management and could find a golden opportunity at Everton.

Pereira allegedly held talks with Bill Kenwright over the Everton job in 2013 and actually snubbed the Toffees in 2019.

Add in that reports from last summer claimed that Pereira wanted to replace Carlo Ancelotti at Everton and you can see why Pereira is on the list again.

His mixed history means Everton fans may not be impressed, but Moshiri and Kenwright appear to like Pereira.
