Everton are actively scanning the transfer market for options that can bring real value to David Moyes’ squad.
Last month, Angus Kinnear made it clear that the club is not interested in quick fixes during this window. The focus is on making moves that help over the long term.
He explained: “We will work towards identifying and executing opportunities that will make us stronger in the long term. But these opportunities will need to be exceptional, and we will avoid short-term fixes that will weaken our hand for phase two of our rebuild next summer.”
Moyes is expected to add three new faces this month as he aims to guide Everton back into European competition.
In the last few days, a new transfer rumour has emerged, connecting Everton with a playmaker highly praised by Gary Lineker.
Gary Lineker has high praise for Everton target Ethan Nwaneri

Reports are circulating that Everton are interested in bringing Ethan Nwaneri in from Arsenal this window.
Nwaneri, who has not started a single league match this season, is also being looked at by Fulham.
Despite the lack of minutes, the 18-year-old is considered one of the division’s top young prospects. Mikel Arteta’s limited use of him has raised more than a few eyebrows.
If Everton can pull off the signing, it would be a big statement. Lineker is among those who have praised Nwaneri, calling him ‘special’.
Speaking after Arsenal’s 4-2 win over Leicester City last season, Lineker said: “We saw a lovely cameo too, didn’t we, from Nwaneri. He looks really gifted. He looks special.”
Alan Shearer has also spoken highly of the 18-year-old, describing him as a ‘potential superstar’.
Joe Cole made a Lionel Messi comparison with Ethan Nwaneri
Nwaneri drew comparisons to Lionel Messi last year from Joe Cole, thanks in part to his small stature and his ability with his left foot.
In February 2025, Cole stated: “He’s a strong little thing.
“You can’t mark him because he can go both ways. These touches he produces in and around the box, I don’t want to say it, but it’s like Messi.
“I don’t want to put any more pressure on the kid’s shoulders, I’m sure he’ll deal with it. He plays with such confidence and he’s a beautiful player.”
Everton are prioritising a striker this January. However, as Angus Kinnear pointed out, the club will not turn down exceptional opportunities if they present themselves.
This seems to fit that bill perfectly.
