Everton are attempting to block Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Ben Godfrey by offering the defender a new contract at Goodison Park.

Everton have really hit form in recent weeks and seem almost galvanised by their recent 10-point deduction.

Eight wins, one draw and three defeats in their last 12 games means Everton are in very impressive form.

Four of those wins have come in a row and Sean Dyche will be looking to make it five against Tottenham Hotspur this weekend.

Days ahead of that game, Everton are now trying to prevent one of their players from becoming a key Tottenham target in January…

Everton attempting to block Tottenham interest in Ben Godfrey

Reports earlier this month indicated that Tottenham were ramping up their pursuit to sign Everton defender Ben Godfrey.

Spurs are seeking defensive signings in January as they seek to add competition for both Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven.

That is a superb pairing but Romero is prone to a suspension and Van de Ven is currently out injured.

Godfrey was out of favour and Tottenham seemingly fancied moving to sign the 25-year-old in January.

TEAMtalk now claim that Everton want to give Godfrey a new contract and block any potential move to Tottenham.

Godfrey is entering the final 18 months of his contract and Everton seemingly want to keep him at Goodison Park.

Before last weekend, Godfrey had only made one Premier League appearance this season and seemingly out of the plans under Dyche.

Godfrey came in for the 2-0 win at Burnley on Saturday evening though, and Dyche may not want to lose him after a strong display.

Godfrey will have much to think about; does he want to commit his future to Everton having been out of the plans for months?

That would feel like a gamble and Tottenham may still have hope of signing the former Norwich City defender, who has previously been hailed as ‘rapid’ by West Ham United striker Michail Antonio.
