Tottenham Hotspur are ready to ramp up their interest in signing Everton defender Ben Godfrey ahead of the January transfer window.

Tottenham are expected to bring in at least one defender during the January transfer window with Ange Postecoglou needing more options.

The recent absences of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven have exposed Tottenham’s lack of depth at the back.

Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo continues to be linked but Tottenham could now go for a different Premier League defender.

Tottenham Hotspur ready to ramp up Ben Godfrey move

It’s stated that Spurs scouts have been ‘impressed’ with Godfrey in recent years and haven’t been put off by his lack of first-team action this season.

Godfrey has played just one minute of Premier League action this season, falling down Sean Dyche’s pecking order.

Everton are now allegedly willing to cash in for around £20million with Tottenham considering offering him a move to North London.

The Toffees would no doubt love to cash in on a player who isn’t even playing, and he may actually be a good fit for Ange Postecoglou’s back line.

Rio Ferdinand has raved about Godfrey

Godfrey has earned huge praise from Rio Ferdinand over the years.

Speaking in 2020, Ferdinand hailed Godfrey for dominating against then-Arsenal winger Nicolas Pepe.

Ferdinand called him ‘absolutely outstanding’ and marvelled at his pace – something key to Ange Postecoglou’s back line at Tottenham.

Van de Ven’s outstanding speed was a key factor for Spurs before his injury and Postecoglou may want another speedy defender.

Godfrey could fit the bill, especially as a homegrown defender with some untapped potential.

Ferdinand does have a vested interest in Godfrey; he is an ambassador and player mentor for New Era Global Sports Management, Godfrey’s agency.

The former England star seemingly sees real talent in Godfrey though, and Tottenham may well agree.
