Everton may have failed with one bid for Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff, but they’re reportedly ready to make a new offer.
The Sunday Mirror (09/01, p64) claim that Longstaff wants to fight for his place at Newcastle.
Everton made a bid for Longstaff just a few days ago, but it was a seemingly derisory bid of just £1million.
This new report now states that Everton are expected to return with a second bid for Longstaff.
However, Longstaff seemingly isn’t all that keen on leaving Newcastle and wants to fight for his spot under Eddie Howe.
That’s despite Everton boss Rafael Benitez being the man who gave Longstaff his big break at Newcastle in the 2018-19 season.
Benitez seemingly fancies reuniting with Longstaff as Everton desperately seek signings to turn their season around.
Out of contract at the end of the season, Newcastle may be minded to cash in on Longstaff now.
They can only do so much though, and if Longstaff doesn’t want to go or prefers to see out his contract, then the Magpies could be frustrated.

Longstaff, 24, has started nine Premier League games this season but may find himself edged out by new signings this month.
There may be an argument that Longstaff may actually be better off under Benitez, who managed to get the best out of him at Newcastle.
Manchester United wanted Longstaff in 2019, with Newcastle slapping a £50million asking price on him.
Fast forward two-and-a-half years and Longstaff is the subject of a £1million bid.
Longstaff needs to get back to his best somehow, and a move to Everton may just give him the fresh start he needs.
