Everton wanted Mohammed Kudus and he has now been hailed by Wesley Sneijder after his performance for Ajax against Liverpool on Tuesday night.

Ajax headed to Anfield on Tuesday for the second game in their Champions League group stage campaign.

Having hammered Rangers 4-0 last week, Ajax wanted to repeat the trick against a reeling Liverpool side, who were thrashing 4-1 at Napoli last week.

Mohamed Salah put Liverpool ahead on the night before Mohammed Kudus slammed a left-footed piledriver past Alisson.

Ajax were closing in on a well-earned point but Joel Matip popped up with a late winner to hand Liverpool a 2-1 victory.

Everton wanted Mohammed Kudus

Ajax head home to Amsterdam gutted at losing out so late on, but Kudus can be delighted with his latest performance.

The Ghanaian has been playing as a makeshift striker of late and that decision has been working perfectly for Ajax.

Kudus was simply outstanding against Rangers last week, smashing a ridiculous left-footed strike in off the woodwork – just as he did against Liverpool too!

Two more goals arrived against Heerenveen over the weekend before Kudus found the net against Liverpool too.

That’s now five goals and one assist in the last four games for Kudus at Ajax, with his situation turning around.

Kudus was a fringe player entering this season but is now emerging as a key player for Alfred Schreuder.

Everton made a move to sign Kudus for around £15million but Ajax rejected that bid, seemingly believing that he will be worth much more in the future.

The Toffees may still be keeping tabs on Kudus and Ajax hero Sneijder has heaped praise on him.

Sneidjer was quoted by Voetbal international as saying that the goal Kudus scored was ‘fantastic’, whilst adding that he is simply ‘great’ to watch in full flow.

“He shoots it fantastic,” said Sneijder. “Until then, he hadn’t been in the game, but this is the Kudus in form. A great player to watch,” he added.

If Everton do still want to sign Kudus, their hopes may well be diminishing with every passing goal and Tuesday’s strike – as well as Sneijder’s praise – will only lead to more interest.
