Everton want Matheus Pereira but face a battle with Leicester City as they seek to bring the former West Bromwich Albion ace back to the Premier League.

The Toffees have added Neal Maupay to their attacking options, raiding Brighton and Hove Albion for the French striker.

Frank Lampard still needs more quality though, especially in the final third, and a number 10 could bring some creativity to the Everton squad.

Ajax ace Mohammed Kudus has been linked but with that deal now believed to be stalling, Everton may need to look for another playmaker elsewhere.

Everton want Matheus Pereira

The Sunday Mirror (28/08, p78) report that Everton are looking into a deal to sign Al Hilal playmaker Matheus Pereira,

It’s stated that both the Toffees and Leicester City are interested in signing Pereira before Thursday’s transfer deadline.

The two teams are thought to have made enquiries into signing the Brazilian in the coming days, potentially luring him back to the Premier League.

Pereira, 26, impressed in the Premier League during the 2020-21 season, racking up 11 goals and six assists in 33 outings for West Bromwich Albion.

Whilst Premier League teams were interested in signing Pereira after West Brom’s relegation, the former Sporting talent instead chose to head off to Saudi Arabia with Al Hilal.

Pereira’s record of 15 assists in 34 games with Al Hilal is hugely impressive, but he has scored just three goals during his time there.

Pereira mostly played as a number 10 or right winger with West Brom, drifting onto his left foot to create or score.

Hailed as a magician on West Brom’s own website, Pereira is the kind of creative force Everton need and he has already proven himself in the Premier League.

You would imagine that Pereira is earning huge money over in Saudi Arabia though and Everton will need to try and structure a deal to bring him back to England before Thursday.
