Everton are closing in on Idrissa Gueye having overcome some issues in his proposed move from Paris Saint-Germain to Goodison Park.

The Toffees have added one defensive midfielder this summer by snapping up Amadou Onana in a big-money move from Lille.

Frank Lampard isn’t done there though and is still keen to add more new blood to his midfield.

Striking options are a priority for Everton but it seems that another midfielder is closer to joining right now.

Everton are closing in on Idrissa Gueye

Everton have been chasing a deal for PSG midfielder Gueye, three years since selling him to the French giants for around £30million.

Everything looked to be heading in the right direction for Everton, especially when Gueye rejected Nottingham Forest to focus on joining Everton.

However, the deal stalled last week with the Mail reporting that Everton were switching their focus to Mohamed Camara.

Camara left Red Bull Salzburg for Monaco just days later though, ruling him out of a move to Everton.

Everton have now pushed on with Gueye again and appear to have reached a breakthrough.

Sky Sports report that issues between Gueye and PSG were holding up the deal and threatening to scupper the move.

However, the issues have now been resolved and Gueye is now expected to become an Everton player in the next couple of days.

It’s unclear just how much Everton are paying for Gueye, but it will be a fraction of the £30million they raked in for him in 2019.

Having landed a top young talent in Onana, Everton are hoping that the experience of Gueye can form a perfect partnership in midfield.

Gueye is now 32 and may not quite be the player he was in his first spell at Everton, but his premier League know-how and leadership abilities should help Lampard moving forward.
