Frank Lampard is ‘frustrated’ Everton are yet to finalise a deal to sign Idrissa Gana Gueye of Paris Saint-Germain to bolster his midfield options at Goodison Park in the summer market.

Everton leave Frank Lampard ‘frustrated’ in pursuit of PSG star Idrissa Gueye

Everton boss Frank Lampard is ‘frustrated’ his Merseyside outfit have not yet signed Idrissa Gana Gueye off Paris Saint-Germain. That’s according to the Liverpool Echo, who note the Toffees are now running out of time for the Senegal star to play at Aston Villa this Saturday.

The Goodison Park leadership are also growing increasingly confused as to why Gueye has not yet agreed to re-join them. Everton offered the 32-year-old what the club believed was a very attractive salary to return to the Premier League after three seasons at his Ligue 1 club.

Gueye is currently training away from the baulk of the Paris Saint-Germain first-team squad after Christophe Galtier deemed him surplus to requirements. Lampard has also personally phoned Les Parisiens’ £30m arrival from the Toffees to convince him to now re-join Everton.

But Gueye is still yet to fully commit to leaving the Parc des Princes, where the 94-cap ace is only under contract until next June. And the Daily Mail report Everton are willing to scrap their interest in Gueye in favour of signing Mohamed Camara of RB Salzburg this summer.

Toffees offered Idrissa Gueye near-on same contract as midfielder’s first spell

Lampard is determined to get a midfielder who can operate as an out-and-out anchor in his engine room. It is a position the Toffees boss marked as an area of need throughout the off-season, but was unable to get a deal over the line before starting the term against Chelsea.

Gueye seemed set to re-sign for Everton three seasons after leaving Goodison Park to join Paris Saint-Germain to end Lampard’s search. TuttoMercatoWEB cited his return as being on the cusp of completion for €5m (£4m) last week after accepting a €4m-a-year net wage.

The £65k-a-week salary would have seen Gueye earn marginally less than the £70k-a-week terms he obtained to join the Toffees from Aston Villa for £7m after their relegation in 2016.
