Everton fans weren’t chuffed about a rumour involving Chris Smalling last month.
According to The Mirror, Everton are interested in signing the 28-year-old when the summer transfer window opens.
At the time it seemed like a potentially underwhelming signing, but his performance in Saturday’s FA Cup win over Tottenham Hotspur should make the Toffees’ faithful change their mind.
Smalling was brilliant and if Harry Kane had a quiet game it’s because the United centre-back offered him next to nothing for 90 minutes.
The Daily Star reported in February that the former Fulham star is worth around £25 million and, for that price, it could be a cracking signing for Everton.
In the current climate, £25 million does not represent a great deal of money – especially not for big-spending Everton – and you wonder if they will get a better bargain this summer.
