According to The Sunday Mirror (12/7; page 69), Everton are battling Manchester United to sign Aston Villa’s Tyrone Mings this summer.

The defender had no luck whatsoever with respect to his fitness when he was a part of Bournemouth in the Premier League. However, a loan move to Aston Villa kept him away from injuries for a season and Dean Smith, rightly, made that move permanent last summer.

However, the Villans could possibly lose him just a year after they signed him on a permanent deal which would be a big blow. Aston Villa are in a terrible position in the league table.

Relegation looks very likely at the moment and if that happens, their best players are likely to be gone before the start of next season. Mings is definitely one of their best and he will not be short of suitors.

Everton are in desperate need of a new central defender. Mason Holgate, Yerry Mina and Michael Keane are the only available centre-halves at the club which simply is not enough for an entire season.

Keane has had his problems with form since the start of the season while Mina’s injury issues make him a difficult player to rely upon.

Some Everton fans recently urged Carlo Ancelotti (read here) to play Holgate higher up the pitch, which cannot be possible if they don’t sign a new defender.

Good or bad move for Everton?

Mings has the experience of playing in the Premier League and if Aston Villa do go down, there is a good chance that Everton can get him for a discounted price.

However, are Everton fans happy to bring him in this summer? Here’s how a few of them reacted to the news on Twitter.
