Everton are yet to appoint their new manager, but already look set to add a new signing in the form of Sporting midfielder Matheus Nunes.
The Toffees are expected to appoint Nuno Espirito Santo as their new boss following Carlo Ancelott’s departure to Real Madrid.
Many will expect an influx of players with ties to Portugal, and that may come to fruition very quickly with a move for Nunes.
What has been reported about Nunes and Everton?
Record claimed on Sunday that Nunes is ‘very close’ to signing for Everton despite interest from Newcastle United.
The 22-year-old played in 31 games last season as Sporting won the title, bagging three goals and two assists along the way.
Nuno is described as being the key to the deal, with Nunes eyed up as his first Everton signing.
Nunes is still pretty raw, but he could really emerge as a talented box-to-box midfielder with great dribbling ability – something different for the Everton midfield.

Everton fans react to Nunes rumours
Everton supporters seem pretty encouraged, believing that Nunes can ‘transform’ their midfield.
Fans seemingly want to find a ball-carrier in midfield, and believe that Nunes is the player to fill that role.
Some even like the idea of signing lesser-known young players, believing that they will have more passion for Everton than signing experienced players.
