According to Record, Sporting talent Matheus Nunes is set to join Everton and link up with Nuno Espirito Santo.

It’s claimed that Nunes is now ‘very close’ to making the move to Goodison Park, with Everton swooping in to beat Newcastle United to his signing.

The report notes that Newcastle have been keen on signing Nunes, but it’s Everton who are poised to win the race.

Who is Everton target Matheus Nunes?

Nunes, 22, is predominantly a central midfielder with real skill on the ball, impressing with his dribbling ability last season.

Signed from Estoril in January 2019, Nunes played 31 league games last season as Sporting won the title, bagging three goals and two assists.

He hasn’t played for Brazil though, and may feel that a move to the Premier League will help him realise that dream – Brexit regulations permitting, of course.

Nuno mentioned as an influence

It looks like Nuno Espirito Santo is going to become the new Everton boss, and it’s noted in this report that his imminent move is a ‘decisive factor’ for the deal to be completed.

Nuno is seemingly a fan of Nunes, having no doubt seen him in action when watching games back in his native Portugal.

Everton did need to find another midfielder, and it looks like that will now happen with Nunes nearing a move, though there is no indication on a fee just yet.
