Everton want Eljif Elmas with Frank Lampard now looking to lure the Napoli midfielder to Goodison Park before the transfer deadline.

The Toffees have already splashed the cash on one midfielder this summer with Amadou Onana arriving from Lille.

The hope is that Onana can become a Premier League star, but Everton may not be done adding to their engine room.

Paris Saint-Germain ace Idrissa Gueye continues to be linked with a return to Everton but they may now have another target in mind.

Everton want Eljif Elmas

Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Everton are now looking to sign Napoli star Elmas.

It’s suggested that there may soon be meetings between Napoli and the midfielder’s agents to figure out the next steps.

The report adds that Napoli would only sell Elmas if there is an ‘important offer’ on the table, meaning Everton will have to push the boat out again.

Elmas, 22, is a technically-gifted, creative midfield player who could offer Everton some guile from midfield.

That’s not really what Gueye and Onana bring, so you can understand why Frank Lampard may appreciate his profile.

Elmas has even played out wide for North Macedonia on the international stage, showing off his versatility.

Elmas caught the eye with Fenerbahce before Napoli pounced to sign him in 2019.

Now with 127 appearances for Napoli – notching 11 goals and eight assists – Elmas has become a mainstay in Serie A.

Elmas also caught the eye at Euro 2020, leaving pundit Robert Earnshaw to talk about the ‘magic’ Elmas has in his locker.

That all sounds very encouraging for Everton, who may see Gueye and Onana doing the dirty work in midfield with Elmas given the freedom to go forward and create.

It’s a fascinating proposition and Everton would certainly be pulling off quite the coup if they can lure Elmas to Goodison Park this month.
