Everton are closing in on David Harrington with the Cork City goalkeeper travelling to England this weekend for talks over a move.

The Toffees ended up having a very promising first window under new director of football Kevin Thelwell.

Premier League experience was added with Conor Coady, James Tarkowski, Idrissa Gueye, Dwight McNeil and Neal Maupay all arriving.

Talents for the future have been secured too though with Amadou Onana and James Garner joining Everton alongside Sporting left back Ruben Vinagre.

Everton may still be a little short in attack but Thelwell can be pleased – and there appears to be another move in the pipeline.

The transfer window may be shut but Everton are still chasing additions.

Everton were keen on signing Cork City goalkeeper Harrington, with Echo Live reporting that a bid worth around €50,000 (£43,000) had been submitted.

Harrington is out of contract at the end of the Irish season – early November – and he will be able to move on for compensation.

Everton want to get a deal done without having to go through haggling at the end of Harrington’s deal.

The Irish Examiner report that Harrington is now ‘edging closer’ to signing for Everton having travelled to England this weekend.

Harrington will meet with key decision-makers at Everton, including Frank Lampard, in an attempt to get the deal over the line.

One interesting point is that this report claims Newcastle United have also been watching Harrington ahead of a possible move.

Eddie Howe is understood to have been tipped off about Harrington and has studied his qualities, but no bid came in before the deadline.

Harrington, 22, joined Cork from Cobh Ramblers in 2018 and has now become first-choice goalkeeper at Turners Cross.

Tipped for a bright future, Harrington could now follow in the footsteps of Seamus Coleman in making the move to Everton from the League of Ireland.

Everton will hope to get this deal agreed and in place quickly, especially with Newcastle seemingly sniffing around the situation.
