Everton could accept a massive loss on Premier League forgotten man Jean-Philipp Gbamin with Turkish publication 61Saat suggesting that £5 million could be enough to keep the Ivorian at Trabzonspor.

Last summer felt like something of a make-or-break period in Gbamin’s Goodison Park career. He had, after all, put those long-standing injury issues behind him during an impressive loan spell at CSKA Moscow.

What’s more, Everton looked like a team crying out for a midfielder of Gbamin’s physicality and ball-carrying potential. But, rather than hand the former Mainz enforcer a clean slate under Frank Lampard, Everton brought in James Garner and Amadou Onana before farming the 27-year-old out on loan once again.

If Gbamin wasn’t going to be offered a fresh start at that particular time, then it seems unlikely that they ever will.

Everton could sell Jean-Philippe Gbamin despite impressive form at Trabzonspor

According to 61Saat, Everton could sell Gbamin for as little as £5 million in 2023; four years after splashing out an eye-watering £25 million to bring him to Merseyside. Turkish champions Trabzonspor are expected to make an attempt to keep Gbamin on the banks of the Black Sea, with the one-time France U21 international enjoying an eye-catching run of form in the Super Lig.

Gbamin has featured in all but one of Trabzonspor’’s last nine league games. He also shone in a 4-0 UEFA Europa League victory over Monaco in October.

“The Everton loanee was sublime throughout,” Get France Football News wrote in their post-match player ratings.

“(Gbamin) brought a serenity to Trabzonspor’s game; even at the beginning of the match when his side were struggling to maintain possession. He won all of his duels, both ground and aerial. And he was a progressive passer who became increasingly influential as Trabzonspor grew into the game.”

Gbamin has less than two years remaining on his Everton contract. He has just two Premier League starts during his time with the North West outfit.

“Trabzonspor are investigating (keeping) this player for next season,” says former Turkey international Giray Kacar. “In my opinion, Gbamin is one of the best liberos Trabzonspor have ever had.

“His physicality, speed, and vision are good, in my opinion.”
