Everton are expected to be in the race to sign Chelsea midfielder Billy Gilmour this summer as Frank Lampard looks to raid his former club.

That’s according to transfer insider Dean Jones, who made the claims whilst speaking to Give Me Sport.

Lampard will first need to keep Everton in the Premier League with the Toffees becoming embroiled in a relegation battle.

If that happens, Lampard will need backing with new signings to take Everton forward – and ensure another relegation fight doesn’t ensue in the future.

Lampard may well look to give former club Chelsea a call and see if they have any players available for Everton, with three players linked.

Jones suggests that Lampard will be interested in signing three Chelsea players – Conor Gallagher, Armando Broja and Billy Gilmour.

Links to Gallagher and Broja have been prominent of late, but the suggestion of interest in Gilmour is new.

Jones claims Lampard will keep a ‘close eye’ on the situations with all three and would be ‘amazed’ if at least one of them doesn’t join Everton.

All three are currently out on loan with Broja at Southampton, Gallagher at Crystal Palace and Gilmour at Norwich City.

It’s incredibly hard for any of them to break into this Chelsea team, and Everton can seemingly offer an escape route to any of them.

With Donny van de Beek only on loan, Everton will need to look for other midfielders and Gilmour certainly has a fan in Lampard.

Lampard gave Gilmour his Premier League debut in 2019 and promoted the Scot to the Chelsea first team on a full-time basis.

Ashley Cole has branded 20-year-old Gilmour as ‘top quality’, but this has been a tricky season on loan at struggling Norwich.

Maybe a loan move to Everton can help Gilmour get back on track, with Chelsea no doubt interested in sending players to work with Lampard.
