Newcastle United have been linked with Billy Gilmour, and Ashley Cole’s comments on the Chelsea midfielder on the ITV Football Football Show will encourage the St. James’ Park faithful.
Billy Gilmour to Newcastle rumour
The Northern Echo reported last month that Newcastle are interested in signing Gilmour from Premier League rivals Chelsea in the summer transfer window.
Steve Bruce’s side reportedly want to sign the Scotland international midfielder on a loan deal.
However, Chelsea are reluctant to send the 20-year-old midfielder on loan at the moment.
Ashley Cole’s verdict
Cole is a former Chelsea player and works at the London club’s academy as a coach now.
The former England international left-back has raved about Gilmour.
Cole said about Gilmour on the ITV Football Football Show: “For such a young boy, I think he handles himself well.
“He has got a good character and mentality, wants to work hard, always wants to improve, always listens to the coaches, the managers whether he trained with the Under-23s. Yeah, he has got top quality.”

Encouraging for Newcastle United
Gilmour is a very young and dynamic midfielder who even impressed the legendary Roy Keane.
The midfielder can hold his own in the middle of the park and can drive forward.
Gilmour had a tough time last season due to injuries.
There is also competition for places in manager Thomas Tuchel’s team.
Chelsea could decide to send the former Rangers prospect out on loan this summer.
If Newcastle get the 20-year-old, then from Cole’s comments, it seems that the Magpies will sign a midfielder who is always looks to improve and has a good character.
A loan move to Newcastle could work out for all parties.
