The summer transfer window just became quite exciting for Aston Villa and Everton, as a fantastic player is said to be on their radar – Leon Bailey.
It was the Daily Mail who revealed that Aston Villa are preparing a £30m move for the 9-cap Jamaica international.
Elsewhere, The Athletic believe Everton want to sign the 23-year-old, who has impressed for Bayer Leverkusen across the past few seasons.
Interestingly, Bailey has been likened to two of the greats.
Lionel Messi 2.0?
When writing a feature about Bailey, the Bundesliga’s official website likened the Bayer Leverkusen No.9 to Arjen Robben.
They mention his tendency to burst down the right flank with speed, before cutting in to shoot on his left, as a comparable feature to the Dutchman.
Bailey, like Robben, also possesses incredible pace.

Further on in the Bundesliga‘s article, it’s written that the Jamaican is ‘exceptional and devastating’ with the ball at his feet, like Lionel Messi.
For the Bundesliga to compare him to players of this stature is bold, but it speaks volumes about how well Bailey has done in Germany.
Everton need him more than Aston Villa
In our view, the Toffees need Bailey more than the Villans do.
Dean Smith already has Jack Grealish, Emiliano Buendia, Bertrand Traore, Anwar El Ghazi, Ashley Young, Trezeguet and Ollie Watkins to choose from in attack.
In Rafa Benitez’s case, the Spaniard has Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Richarlison and Andros Townsend – Demarai Gray also arrived today.

Bernard is said to be leaving, while Alex Iwobi hasn’t exactly set the world alight at Goodison Park.
In that respect, Everton are certainly more in need of Bailey’s qualities than Aston Villa are.
