Danny Murphy has praised the Leeds United fans at Elland Road for the Premier League game against Norwich City on Match of the Day 2 on BBC One (10:58pm, March 13, 2022).

The former Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool midfielder was impressed by the Leeds fans not giving up on supporting their team and cheering their team even after Jesse Marsch’s side conceded a late goal.

Leeds got the better of Norwich 2-1 at home in the Premier League on Sunday.

Spanish star Rodrigo put Jesse Marsch’s side in the lead in the 14th minute.

Norwich restored parity through Kenny McLean in the first minute of injury time, but Joe Gelhardt scored the winner for Leeds just minutes later.

Praise for Leeds United fans

Murphy said: “Tell you what. I have to give the Leeds fans credit today because even at 1-1, they didn’t drop. They just kept at it. Unbelievable (energy).

Arsenal legend Ian Wright added: “There was an anxiousness there that I was really worried because they deserved to win that by a lot more than they did.”

Escaping the drop

In our view, the win for Leeds against Norwich has enhanced their chances of escaping the dreaded drop to the Championship at the end of the season.

The Whites are now four points above the relegation zone.

Now, of course, Leeds are not out of the woods yet, but in our view, they can certainly retain their Premier League status for next season.
