Serie A giants Inter Milan are eyeing up Tomas Soucek as the in-form midfielder enters the final 12 months of his contract at Premier League outfit West Ham United.

The Nerazzuri have certainly made good use of the free-agent market in recent windows, albeit largely due to their precarious financial position.

Davy Klaassen, Marko Arnautovic, Alexis Sanchez, Emil Audero, Juan Cuadrado, Carlos Augusto and Marcus Thuram all joined Inter Milan on free transfers during the summer of 2023, and Simone Inzaghi’s side could dip their toe into familiar waters if Tomas Soucek leaves West Ham United next July.

Tomas Soucek faces uncertain West Ham future

Soucek is out of contract in 2024. Inter are interested, Inzaghi hoping to add more height and physicality to a technically-gifted but rather diminutive midfield.

Corriere dello Sport reports that West Ham do have a 12-month extension clause in Soucek’s deal, but whether or not said clause is triggered may depend on how the Czech Republic international feels about a fresh start in a new league.

With all due respect to West Ham, flying high under David Moyes and Conference League holders, Inter Milan would be a step up for Soucek. Champions League regulars and arguably the favourites for the Scudetto.

Inter Milan keen

A £19 million signing from Slavia Prague in 2020, Soucek has bounced back from a difficult campaign last time out, exploding out of the blocks in the early weeks of the new campaign. The rangy midfielder scored the opener in Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Newcastle United. His fourth of 2023/24, Soucek has more goals this season than he did during the entirety of last season already.

With the one-time Bayern Munich target as integral as ever to Moyes’ plans, despite the big-money arrivals of James Ward-Prowse, Mohammed Kudus and Edson Alvarez, The Hammers may be hoping for a similar resolution to the Jarrod Bowen saga.

Bowen finally put the speculation to bed by signing a new long-term contract this month.
